Technical Principle
Virtual Tape Library (VTL) virtualized existing disk storage systems into a traditional tape library system (including tape library, tape drives & tapes), logically it is a tape, but physically it is disk. It emulates SCSI command method, simulate the disk as a tape device, as such shorten the backup window, increase efficiency, and shorten the switchover timing. One of the many functions of VTL is remote replication. It uses disk array-based replication technology onto a virtual tape library, together with the special characteristic of VTL; improving the efficiency of the system backup. VTL replication does not require additional 3rd party software; do not take up resources of the server and SAN network, and the IT system core data will still be intact even during major mishaps. VTL remote replication is simple, feasible, modular design and can be edited dynamically. Remote replication transmit through an ip, the system infrastructure is simplified and low cost. Replication does not involve server, and only require configuring the VTL and replication will take place automatically.
