In order to better respond to the development of the market direction, IBM launched IBM linuxone, which is IBM's main product for enterprise computing in the Linux field. It introduces two types of Linux based mainframes. The high-end configuration mainframe will be named "emperor", which runs on IBM Z13 hardware. The smaller model is rockhopper, which is mainly designed for "entry-level" scenarios.
At the same time, it also introduces the latest edition for Linux, such as Ubuntu for KVM, and supports open-source softwares like MariaDB and docker, supporting the mainstream open-source software and tools in the industry, helping data centers to achieve better expansion.
This will bring opportunities for new application development, including scale expansion and scale effect. In addition, it will also improves performance. For example, the speed of running on Linux one will be 1.5 times of that on X86, which is very critical for transactional business.
As the core part of IBM business, Linux one meets the requirements of emerging markets, especially open source systems, and the requirements of new business enhancement and changes. To meet the above application requirements, linuxone has three components:
1. It has the latest Linux technology, including Z13, that supports open source system and integration with Linux.
2. The host is very important for all Linux users. IBM has different types of customers from large banks, social security, provident fund, and small and medium-sized enterprises, which are running their core system on IBM's host Linux.
3. With the release of linuxone, IBM hopes that the new Linux products, including the two new mainframe products based on Linux, can provide customers with a better choice, so that the users can put more applications on Linux in the open source environment, and provide customers with high availablility and critical business platform for open environment.
Hou Miao, vice president of IBM and general manager of server solutions of hardware system department in Greater China, said, "in the future, IBM will continue to expand new Linux customers, especially those with high workload in open source environment. IBM will open up more new technologies and provide customers with a high availability platform, so that customers have the opportunity to put more applications on Linux to meet their needs for Linux. "
In China, IBM mainframe has many partners. As a high-tech enterprise, IPACS (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd. mainly designs and develops solutions based on its unique large-scale distributed cloud service platform technology, aiming at the urgent needs of the Chinese market for mobile Internet and large-scale business software systems.
